Child Sponsorship

Child Sponsorship

Child Sponsorship enables U.S. citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their children for immigration to the United States. This applies to biological children, stepchildren, and adopted children under certain conditions.

Conditions for Sponsorship:

– For biological children born before the sponsor became a U.S. citizen.

– Stepchildren must have established a parental relationship before turning 18.

– Adopted children must have been in the sponsor’s legal custody for at least two years.

Visa Types:

CR2/IR2 Visa: For children under 21 years old.

F2A Visa: For children of permanent residents.

F1 Visa: For unmarried children over 21 years old of U.S. citizens.

Additional Information: According to U.S. immigration law, a stepfather can sponsor his spouse’s children if the relationship was established before the child turned 18. This means the parent must marry before the child’s 18th birthday. For children aged 18 to 21, it is recommended to file under the K-1 visa category to accompany the parent.
